Premium .wales .cymru drops

In November 2014 Nominet published a list of 6323 premium welsh names:

3161 .cymru premium names
3162 .wales premium names

These premium names could be registered for £50 between 29th December 2014 and 25th February 2015 only. Contested premium names were subject to an auction and as such only less than one hundred were sold.

Following the start of general availability on 1st March 2015, many good terms (not on the premium list) were also registered.

Nominet released the remaining unsold premium names at cost price on the 31st March 2015 and many people in the UK secondary market invested in them.

The 6249 unsold .wales and .cymru premium names list can be found here:

3126 .cymru premium names
3123 .wales premium names

We blogged the next morning (1st April 2015) how 806 of these names where registered the previous day.

Today we are one year down the line and many of those premium and early general availability registrations have not been renewed.

According the .wales/.cymru Domain lifecycle here:

  • The Auto renew grace period will be 45 days after expiry
  • Redemption grace period will be 30 days
  • Pending delete period will be 5 day

Which means one year and 80 days later these names become available again:

  • Any good general availability name registered on 1st March would become available again around 19th May 2016.
  • Any good premium name registered on the 31st March 2015 would become available again around 19th June 2016.

This is the whois status you are looking for on a pending delete .wales or .cymru:
